Indeed - cost of funding is a huge competitive advantage for jap banks right now. Its driving a lot of the demand for triple A CLOs

That may not be the case because their cost of funding is actually very competitive given their access to a very deep pool of domestic funding in Japan.

Excellent hire by Nomura -- however, I would have thought that the cost of funding for a firm like Nomura will make that a tough mandate even for a smart and capable fellow like Mr. Varma!
