Barclays Capital has announced the launch of its new Europe, middle east and Africa (EMEA) convertible securities index. This new index expands the geographic coverage of the Barcap’s convertibles index family and aims to offer investors a total return benchmark for multi-currency EMEA convertibles portfolios.
Designed for use by active and passive portfolios, this rules-based index consists of securities that are actively quoted by market makers. In addition to a flagship index, a suite of sub-indices by convertibles profile, sector classification, currency, country and credit quality are available, providing structural breakdowns of convertibles market performance.
Barcap's head of convertibles research Luke Olsen believes the index will appeal to dedicated convertibles investors, as well as crossover debt and equity investors seeking measures for convertible asset class returns.
