Tribune is a Chicago, Illinois-based media company with $11.8 billion in outstanding debt, according to a 10 November 2008 SEC filing. The firm filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy at the US bankruptcy court of Delaware on 8 December 2008. Having triggered a bankruptcy credit event under its credit default swaps, a credit settlement auction on 6 January 2009 determined CDS on Tribune's bonds to be worth 1.5 cents on the dollar.
